Locking threads

Recommended Posts

I've said this before, and I'll say it again: Mods, you are suffocating the forums when you unnecessarily lock threads. This is a case of over-moderating, perhaps because you feel the need to do something when your powers are not needed. Not every topic has to be tied up into a neat little bow, you can leave a few open you know. There's always room for more input and you're blocking that. I don't like the restriction. Many times I've wanted to post something but cannot because of this. I completely understand certain threads being closed that have no more value, were limited-time only, or shouldn't be kept open for certain reasons. But aside from these few situations, I wish you would relax a little. Below I will give examples of exactly what I mean:

ONE : Update thread. Shouldn't have been closed, a new topic was made to discuss this anyway so closing it did nothing. More people might have posted something if this thread was left open instead of a new one being created elsewhere, if nothing else then to at least congratulate him.

TWO : An example of a thread where locking is used correctly. The rules are the rules and you can't argue with them. Any changes can be suggested in the appropriate forum section but these will seldom be altered.

THREE : Another example of where locking is deemed necessary. This thread was going nowhere and there is no definitive answer here. Just leads to constant arguing, eventually flaming and hurtful comments as people continue to one-up each other.

FOUR : OK support related threads like this are usually locked before the OP has even had a chance to reply! This is bad forum etiquette, after you make an attempt to help someone at least give them the opportunity to thank you or to post if they still need further help. Point in case, the linked thread here states the user has "forgot my damn password" so how will Bind's answer help him there? Nothing personal to you Bind, you are trying to be very active and helpful at your job and that's great. But if I could've added my 2 cents there, they would have been: 1) use account recovery system, 2) the client's "remember me" feature saves (unencrypted) passwords locally at C:\Users\Your-name\roatpkzv5\Data\login.ini

FIVE : Why would you lock suggestions? And 5 mins after it's posted as well... give people a chance please. It's nice that it's getting looked into and adding to poll, etc etc. But what about user feedback? What do other people think of this idea? Will it be utilised, or yet another dead teleport to spread the players even thinner? Do people have any other ideas for locations? Guess we'll never know now. The OP clearly said, "Thanks, let me know of any different suggestions and ideas that you have, and your opinions."

Right, well I CBA trawling more through the forums right now, the point is many locked threads shouldn't be locked. It's a pre-emptive strike, like you're thinking "I bet people will spam here later, so just to prevent that I'll just close this now!" That's pretty lazy if you ask me, just leave them open. Threads should only ever be closed as a last resort, not just because you feel like it.

RoatPkz forum is not a forum that should be moderated and i think the only main rules should be severe spamming and infringing upon someones IRL/Personal life.

Other than that RoatPkz forum should be a free for all, i think everyone prefers it that way.

Just MO.

I agree.

@Game Support II The main two threads you listed were Bind u Dead locking the topic. We'll have a chat to him.

I have no idea why the update thread was locked.

Server Support Should Have No Forum Powers IMO

Originally added it because other staff members who were moderators/admins didn't bother to do anything on the forums so i thought giving server support the ability to lock threads was a decent idea. Now we have a forums moderator makes sense to remove the permissions but i needed someone in the staff team actually doing something :)

The thing I dislike is when the staff members state their opinion and/or try to defend themselves then just lock the thread in staff feedback

What is the point of that? It's staff feedback... Wouldn't you like to know the players response to what you're saying?

When server support removes your posts in a staff feedback :kappa:
